The Bekash Restaurant
If you ever find yourself wandering down Nevendon Road in Wickford and suddenly get that unmistakable craving for rich spices, sizzling grills, and warm hospitality, there’s one place you’ll want to check out: The Bekash Restaurant. Nestled in Sydney House, this gem has become a well-loved spot among locals and visitors alike who are searching for authentic Indian cuisine in Wickford. Whether you're planning a solo lunch escape or a cozy dinner gathering with friends, this restaurant ticks a lot of boxes.
Let’s talk food first-because that’s what really draws people to The Bekash Restaurant. Their Biryani is the kind that makes you stop mid-bite just to appreciate the flavor profile. Aromatic, spiced just right, and loaded with perfectly cooked meat or vegetables, it’s a must-try dish for anyone new to Indian cuisine or craving the classic. The Tandoori Mixed Grill is another favorite, arriving at the table sizzling, smoky, and bursting with flavor. If you’re someone who likes variety, it’s a fantastic way to sample a bit of everything-chicken tikka, lamb chops, sheek kebabs, and more.
For starters, the Samosas and Bhajis never disappoint. Crispy, golden, and served with an array of house-made dips, they set the tone for a great meal. And of course, it’s almost a crime not to start your meal with a few crunchy Poppadoms or Papadum, especially when dipped into their mint yogurt or mango chutney.
One thing that sets The Bekash apart from other Indian restaurants in Essex is how it manages to blend traditional flavors with a modern dining experience. The space itself is welcoming and inclusive-with full wheelchair accessibility, including the car park, entrance, toilet, and seating areas. It’s the kind of place that says “come as you are,” whether you’re popping in after work or celebrating something special.
Now let’s talk drinks. The restaurant boasts a well-curated wine list-a bit of a rarity in many Indian establishments-and their beer and spirits selection is impressive too. If you're into pairings, a glass of red with your Chicken Tikka Masala hits just right. And yes, they serve halal food, late-night bites, and even a good coffee if you’re finishing your meal on a mellow note. Dessert lovers won’t want to skip their sweet offerings either; they’re known for serving great desserts, and trust me, they live up to the hype.
Service-wise, the team here is warm, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable. They’ll guide you through the menu if you're unsure, offering helpful suggestions without being pushy. You can dine in or opt for takeaway, which is perfect for those nights when you want all the flavor without leaving the house. And yes-it’s a go-to for both lunch and dinner, consistently praised for being solo-diner friendly, which not every restaurant can claim.
What also makes The Bekash Restaurant such a standout is its ability to cater to a variety of tastes and needs. Looking for vegetarian options? You’re covered. Want something light? They offer small plates as well. Craving bold, satisfying flavors with a side of warm service? That’s their default.
In a town filled with takeaway joints and chain eateries, The Bekash stands out by offering something more personal, more flavorful, and more thoughtful. From the moment you step inside, you're not just eating-you’re being welcomed into a culinary experience. For those seeking authentic Indian food near Wickford, with all the comforts and quality of a great local spot, The Bekash Restaurant is more than worth the visit.

First visit for a good few years. Service and food great. Just ask you guys to clean your blind slates around the conservatory. Dust and flys not a great look
Incredible food, lovely helpful staff And service was amazing
Excellent service. We had Vegetarian and prawn dishes and they were not that good. There were large chunks of potatoes in all the vegetarian dishes. The raita was just a tub of yoghurt with chopped onions on top of it- a basic raita should contain garlic, ginger, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, coriander and mint leaves, garam Masala and lime.
Beautiful food, nice clean restaurant, lots of parking available, service was good (could have been a little quicker but it was busy), would definitely recommend and return
VISIT DATE: FRI 06/09/2024 VISIT TIME: 18:00 The Beckash is a very popular restaurant, situated on the road into Wickford as you come off the A127. It has a good amount of parking spaces, is nicely decorated and can accommodate a large number of people at the same time. Staff are friendly and attentive and there are a number of dishes to choose from on the menu. I visited with my Aunt and Uncle who live near by and we ordered a selection of dishes, including onion bhaji, sag paneer, Bombay potato, mushroom rice and lamb balti. The onion bhajis were outstanding; beautifully crisp, delicate and delicious. I would highly recommend them. The rest of the food was good, but everything was extremely salty, which meant I couldn't really taste any of the flavours of the dishes properly and did put me off from coming back in future.
